As well as all the good stuff, our blood also carries toxins and waste in it. These are the excess vitamins and minerals that our bodies didn't (or couldn't) absorb. When the blood reaches an area of the body that is difficult to manoeuvre, in particular around bone, because of bad posture, stressed tight hunched shoulders or old scar tissue, it deposits a tiny amount of waste in the muscle fibres.
This is a KNOT! This cycle continues and the knot gets bigger, causing tightness, tension and pain. Either directly where the knot is or referred pain,in another part of the body.
It is my job as a massage therapist to help break this knot down. I manipulate the soft tissues in the body, using techniques such as rubbing, kneading and stretching. I apply soft to deep pressure, depending on the client and their needs, with hands, fingers, elbows and forearms.
Prenatal massage can be used throughout all 3 trimesters. It is good for both the Mammy and the Baby. There are numerous benefits to
pregnancy massage. One of the major benefits is how pregnancy massage promotes relaxation. Relaxation is key to the production of oxytocin.
This hormone when abundant, helps to soften the cervix in preparation for labour and keeps labour moving along.
Throughout your pregnancy, normal life continues. You have to work, exercise, look after your other children. And with this comes the
everyday tensions, knots, tightness, aches and pains. Therefore you should still get a treatment that will not only help alleviate the
soreness but also induce a deep sense of relaxation and comfort!
Indian head massage uses variety of massage movements to relieve accumulated tension and stimulate circulation. It also helps reduce
stress and fatigue and improve mental clarity.
Treating the scalp relaxes your mind and nervous system, promotes sound sleep and may help your memory too. Another benefit of indian head massage is to help fight depression. Massaging the head encourages the supply of oxygen to the brain which
is one of the best ways of reducing anxiety and of lifting one's mood. Oxygen helps you think clearly and creatively - a similar effect is
experienced through exercise.
Indian head massage combines techniques to include various massage strokes and acupressure points. Treatment includes kneading and probing
of the neck and shoulder areas. The scalp is then massaged, using squeezing, tapping, rubbing or prodding motions.
The treatment can be given as a stand alone treatment or incorporated into a full body treatment. Typically, I like to finish all treatments
with a relaxing, calming and blissful head massage. Traditionally oils are used in Indian head massage treatments, however, if you would prefer
no oils that is no problem at all.
