Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a light-touch hands-on bodywork therapy that enhances the body's
own natural capacity for healing. It examines membranes and movement of fluids in and around the central nervous
system. Relieving tension in this system promotes a feeling of well-being by eliminating pain and boosting health
and immunity.
CST invites the body into deep relaxation so that healing can take place on all levels: emotional, mental and
physical. The therapist's job is to help facilitate your body’s innate ability to self heal. This healing is indicated
through states of deep exhalaxation, heat, tingling sensations and energy release. When the muscles relax - nerves and blood
flow begins to move more freely and efficiently!
Craniosacral therapy is so gentle that it is suitable for babies, children, the elderly, as well as adults. Treatment
can aid almost any condition, raising vitality and improving the body’s capacity for self-repair.
Here's an example:
The vagus nerve (the longest cranial nerve in the body) runs from the base of the skull down through the diaphragm
into the stomach. It is both a sensory and motor nerve. It:
~ Prevents inflammation
~ Helps you make memories
~ Helps you breathe
~ Is responsible for controlling the heart rate
~ Initiates your body's relaxation response
~ Translates what your gut is feeling to your brain
~ Helps reduce inflammation and may inhibit it all together
Therefore, if there is a restriction or compression on the vagus nerve it can have serious knock on effects.
Gentle manipulation of the cranial bones can alleviate this pressure on the nerve, beginning the train of healing.
Traumas throughout life as well as skull moulding from your position in utero and/or during your birth, natural or assisted (when forceps or a ventouse suction cup are used), can lead to some of the issues listed below:
CST will help all of these issues immensely, if not completely rectify them.
